Irish people either wildly exaggerate things or completely underestimate them. This is done to solely suit our own agendas and shape whatever narrative that will portray us in the best possible light. For example, if you are meeting someone and you are running thirty-minutes late – say you will be there in five-minutes.
That gives you twenty-five minutes to make up an elaborate and wild exaggerated story to explain your tardiness. Of course the other person won’t believe the excuse, but we are much too polite to disagree with you.Post late excuses… it is a standard protocol to insist that you are, “just having the one (drink)”.
In reality, this means we are having a least three. If the three drinks turns into more, then revert to being liberal with the truth and blame the person you have just been drinking with for being late for the next engagement.
